Country music legend Emmylou Harris struck the right chord at a special concert in Glasgow last night.

The veteran American singer-songwriter was the driving force behind the Concert For A Landmine Free World at the Clyde Auditorium.

She joined forces with Elvis Costello, Nanci Griffith, Steve Earle and John Prine in urging governments all round the world to ban the use of landmines, one of the late Princess Diana's favourite causes.

The aim of the concert, a taster for Glasgow's Celtic Connections festival which starts today, was to raise funds for victims in Vietnam and Cambodia.

During the two-and-a-half hour show, each singer took it in turns to showcase their own songs, although former punk icon Costello duetted with Nanci Griffith.

Emmylou performed some of her best-known songs including the poignant Red Dirt Girl, which perfectly captured the mood of the concert.

Other highlights were Costello's rendition of Shipbuilding and America Without Tears and Earle's moving track Can't Remember If We Said Goodbye.
