The Delivery Man - Elvis Costello and The
Imposters

3 stars ('Good')

Back to the day job for rock's renaissance man.

Coinciding with the release of Il Sogno - his first full-length orchestral work - The Delivery Man is a 'regular' Elvis Costello album , but it's still an eclectic mix. Button My Lip has him hollering like a young James Brown , while Monkey To Man is the kind of funky rock Lenny Kravitz used to do. There's also a handful of lilting country tunes, including three duets with Emmylou Harris. These songs could have sounded jaded . But after 20-plus albums ,there's still heart and soul in that funny old voice.
