This compilation has been on Universal's schedules for over a year, held back by the absence of a "hook". That arrived with Costello's version of She, featured on the Notting Hill soundtrack. The singer also appeared with Burt Bacharach in The Spy Who Shagged Me. Radio 2 airplay helped the single to Number 19, while The Very Best Of... jumped straight in at Number 4. It sold 45,000 in the first two weeks, boosted by campaigns on national TV and radio.
