Costello Gets "Cruel"

Elvis Costello will release When I Was Cruel, his first solo album in more than five years, on April 23rd. Costello self-produced the record under the alias "The Imposter," and a spokesperson at his new label, Island/Def Jam, describes it as "vintage-sounding Elvis."

The fifteen-track album, Costello's seventeenth studio album -- discounting collaborations and compilations -- is his first since 1996's All This Useless Beauty. The disc features keyboardist Steve Nieve and drummer Pete Thomas from Costello's longtime band, the Attractions, with former Cracker member Davey Faragher on bass.
