Review of concert from 2001-12-18: with Steve Nieve; Paris, La Scene
- Francois Drouin

Steve Nieve concert (with E. Costello) December 18 - La Scene - Paris

So, yesterday, the Zomba records label on which the last Steve Nieve album "Mumu" was issued, something like 2 months ago, organized a special show to promote Steve Nieve's new album. I wrote to Zomba records one week before the show and they sent me an invitation. I thank them.

It was at the venue "La Scene", a restaurant and a bar with a stage. It was free admittance, but most of the people had invitations and were relatives of either Muriel Teodori and Steve Nieve. People with invitation were first allowed to come in.

The show started around 9:40pm, with four musicians going on to the stage:

Elvis Costello - guitar
Steve nieve - voice and piano or organ
Vincent Segal - violincello
Renaud Pion - clarinets and saxophones

Here is the setlist :

- intro confident again -

Young people

The show lasted 73 minutes, including the encore.

Everything sung by Steve Nieve except when mention. All the song of the album "Mumu" were played. Most of the song were introduced by Steve either in French or English. The audience has been asked to sing along, when it was "American dream".

Elvis shortly mentioned his new album coming out next spring. He promised to play in Paris for the planned upcoming tour, next year. The sound and rendition were truthly tremendous. Everything was almost perfect. They must have rehearsed a lot, I think. It was a real success.

Elvis went back with the audience after the show, to congratulate Steve, who was already talking with everybody. Elvis left the venue with Cait.

In the audience, there were Alain Chamfort and Bashung, both very well known French singers/musicians.

It was nice to see Elvis coming back to Paris, after many years, too many years.

Francois
