Review of concert from 2003-09-12: Madrid, Spain, Chesterfield Café, 12:30 - private concert - with Steve Nieve
- Borja Yagüe

Intimate Performance in Madrid

It was a small cafe (Chesterfield) and Elvis and Steve Nieve performed songs off North mostly. They also played Almost Blue. Elvis played the guitar and the piano, and just sang on most songs, and Steve was on the piano except for the last song, which he played on a melodica.

It was a concert sponsored by a Spanish radio station called M80 (very popular here) and we had a cocktail afterwards, although we didn´t get any talk or sign from Elvis because he had a plane to catch to go to London and perform there.

It was a great experience (it was the first time I saw Elvis) and I was like 1 meter from him, and his voice has improved a lot.

He said we were one of the first audiences he had ever performed those songs for, and he was very pleased that we had given them such a warm welcome, as these new songs are very intimate. He had a nice point, when someone knocked at the back door during a song, and when he had finished, he went and opened the door and proclaimed "Lettuce!" It was the boy from the delivery, bringing lettuces to the bar. Imagine the face of the boy, when he knocks, expecting the manager or something and he gets Costello instead!

Great concert, great performance, very intimate ambience and Elvis is the best.
