Review of concert in Washington DC on 1998-10-15 Elvis Costello & Burt Bacharach Wwaffle@aol.com I went to the EC/BB concert in Washington DC tonight. It was amazing!!!!!!!! The concert starts with darkness and you hear Elvis over the sound sytem strumming a guitar off stage and singing the beginning of "I just don't know what to do with myself". He then introduces Burt Bacharach. I can''t remember the entire set list, but they do every song from PFM. Burt does a half-hour medly of his famous tunes from movies. Then they do more PFM. Then Elvis does a half-hour set. That set was: Accidents will Happen (arranged by Steve Nieve, who appeared on stage and played with the orchestra all night long, Elvis says this is how it was originally performed at Hollywood High). Veronica (A great arrangement using the orchestra. Elvis says they put it together yesterday at the sound check. Everyone laughed and he said, "You think I am joking?") I don't know what to do with myself (Elvis recounted how they used to play this in the 70's, but would do it "with all of the right chord changes" this time) Allison (With the orchestra. Elvis joked that he never thought he would ever play an electric guitar while wearing a tuxedo) Almost Blue (With orchestra) They also did some other BB standards together. Elvis told two Monica Lewinsky jokes, evoking Elvis for President from the audience. He seemed very relaxed and genuinely moved. He said it was exciting and touching to see the audience reacting so well to the concert. All in all, it was the most amazing concert I have ever been to. Elvis has never sung better. His voice sounded lush and full of emotion. Long live Elvis!!!!
