Elvis Costello & Steve Nieve

Nottingham Royal Centre, 4th November 1999.

EC started the latest leg of his ongoing lonely world tour in darkness, with Jazzmaster at it's customary forty five degrees pounding out the new 'Alibi Factory' with a raw power last heard circa '94. By the time the stage lights slowly illuminated the man himself he had switched to the now more familiar acoustic and the magnificent Steve Nieve was firmly ensconced at the ivories, they then took the audience on a guided tour through that amazing back catalogue. Thirty odd tunes spread over two and a half hours performed with passion, confidence and not a little humour.

Within this Elvis hinted at his next project called 'The Delivery Man', a collection of songs about the hopes of three women, he then performed one of those songs 'Last Night I Dreamt Of My Old Love' an instant classic!

Highlights from tonight must have been the beatbox version of 'Clubland' or the Kraftwerkesque rendering of 'Green Shirt' nor forgetting the beautiful acoustic 'Little Triggers'. See you at the Symphony Hall for more of the beloved entertainer.
