[On]July 16th... Elvis Costello
played actually in Berne, Switzerland, on the "Gurten",
a little mountain overlooking the Swiss capital.

He and the Attractions were one of the headliners
of the "Gurten Open-Air" annual festival. This edition
was wonderful: the wheater excellent and the music wonderful.

Elvis and his band played at 8pm, after Heroes del Silencio,
a Spanish band. He seemed to be in a good mood, even smiled
from time to time. The gig was loud, fast but I
(and the rest of the public) liked it. It was the 3rd time
I have seen EC (to Montreux Jazz Festival apperances in 91 and 92, one
first solo and then with the two Squeeze men and Nick Lowe,
and a second very disappointing one at 2am and absolutely
brutal and noisy), and this was by far the most cheerful concert.
For what I have seen the song listings, this one was
not very different. He played 1 hour and 30 minutes, thus
fewer songs than in a normal concert.

The 90 Swiss francs (=$60) I payed for the 2 days of outdoor
sitting (and burning) around were worth for EC. I missed deliberately
UB40, but Jethro Tull on Sunday were excellent.
