I saw Elvis in the Royal Albert Hall on Tuesday
on his first night in London.
I was seated 4th row from the front and I was surprised that
there seemed to be room for at least another 700 or so people.
I estimate the RAH holds around 5,000. Most are seated but there
was room for 1,000 standing.

Some highlights:
The RAH has a large organ situated high up in
one part of the building (behind and above the stage)
which is used for classical concerts etc. and Steve played it
while Elvis sang Favourite Hour. It was very effective and
showed what a good singer he is with minimum backing.

Clown Strike was excellent. He really played with the song
in a live setting. Also excellent were:
Rocking Horse Road, Still too soon to know, All the rage,
London`s Brilliant Parade (of course).

He changed the line in Kinder Murder from
"left her senseless" to :"f**ked her senseless"

He spoke before "All The Rage" and talked about
"we not seeing each other again"
and then sort of said this song would say what he
meant. Of course the first words of the song are
 "Say Goodbye"
I believe it will be the last tour of Elvis with the
Attractions.

Lowlights
I thought the band were more like session men than
a backing band (albeit excellent session men).
There was little or no communication/rapport.

I didn't like the venue. It would have suited the
Brodsky quartet rather than the Attarctions
but I am glad I was close to the
stage because it is a large and tall building.
I have seen Elvis in smaller venues and have
enjoyed him more.

I didn't think the older material worked as well
as the newer stuff. The start was not as good as I
expected. I probably prefer Elvis when he "acts"
a song or uses it to dramatic effect to get the song
across on say "Clubland or Sulky Girl" than hearing
songs lkie "No Action or The Beat"

I didn't (and don't) like Puppet Girl at all.

I just missed getting a set list after the show from
one of the roadies (the guy before me got it) but I
did get 4 guitar picks which say "Lock Up your Mothers
Tour '94" on one side.

I gave a photo-copy of article which appeared in the
Irish Times on the Costello mailing list to a security
guard to give to Elvis. Who knows he might get it.
