MEJERIET, LUND, SWEDEN 1994.07.28

According to the ticket the concert would take place outdoor no matter what
weather it would be. But of course the sun always shine on Elvis. In fact we had
one of the hottest days of the century, so the bar was heavily visited
during the hour before show-start.

The band was on stage quite on time, about 20:00. Elvis, dressed in red
shirt and dark-brown waistcoat, said hello to the crowd after a few songs.
He was very aware that it had been a long time since he last visited this
part of the country. He had comments on this also at the end of the show
when he told us about the Malmoe gig with the Pogues some many years ago.
He stated that he was heavily drunk at that occasion. Well...

About one thousand fans had gathered to enjoy the two hour long set,
including three rounds of encores. The spirit was on top all the time.
Elvis joked around up there a bit more than he uses to. He was very
"guitarish". We had a "Wild Thing" start on Rocking Horse Road. Mr.Nieve
also ran around his keys as if it was his last night on stage, always
improvising on any theme he'd fancy for the moment. To name one, we had a
bit of "singin' in the rain" in the middle of P L & U. Pete is always
reliable and played great. Our bass-man stood as a rock and didn't even
care to smile, well maybe once at the most, but the playing was perfect as
expected, so I shall not complain. In the end of the show we suddenly had
Steve and Pete with some kind of parrot-masks on their noses, bringin Elvis
to laugh during All the Rage. That song was one of the most excellent
performings this evening. I must say I was impressed by the warmth of the
ballads. Alison, Shipbuilding, Party Girl have never sounded this beautiful
to me as this night. But... to be honest it was the power of the
rock'n'roll that took the most breath out of us. Elvis also presented this
tour as "Lock up your mothers tour"... during the last of the encores.

Of course you afterwards had to buy one of the four different, bloody
expensive t-shirts for sale. One of them reading "Elvis Costello and the
Attractions - more than You deserve". I wouldn't disagree...

The headlines the day after read: "A magic night with Elvis Costello"...
"A moment to remember"... ...in Swedish though.
