Liner Notes:

Elvis Costello: These are two of my favorite songs from that really golden songwriting period from Workingman's Dead to From the Mars Hotel. And while I might have chosen any of the never-cut-in-the-studio gems from Europe '72, like "Brown-Eyed Woman" or "Ramble on Rose" -- glorious! -- "Stella Blue" and "China Doll" have too many "Norwegians" in them for my fallible fingers. I heard these two songs at the London Alexandra Palace concerts in '74 and really fell for them. When I found myself in San Jose some years ago, I thought, "Why not? I bet this is Grateful Dead country."
