There are few artists who have the breadth of interest and depth of talent to tackle projects ranging from pop and jazz to classical and gospel. Elvis Costello is one of those. During his nearly 25-year career, he has earned a reputation as a brilliant songwriter, consummate performer and sought-after record producer. In all these undertakings, one thing remains constant - a tenacious and passionate commitment to the creative process - and the outcome is always inventive and challenging. His latest project, a collaboration with Burt Bacharach, is no exception. Painted From Memory is a continuation of the working relationship the two established when they co-wrote and recorded "God Give Me Strength" for Allison Ander's film Grace Of My Heart (nominated for a Grammy in 1997). Bacharach who has penned eight Top 10 hits during his 40-year career, has been writing original material with Costello throughout the last year. The 12 new Bacharach/Costello compositions make up Painted From Memory. The album is Elvis' 18th since his recording career began in 1977 with his debut release My Aim Is True. Through his recordings with The Attractions, as a solo artist, and throughout his work with such diverse performers as The Brodsky Quartet, John Harle, Bob Dylan, the Jazz Passengers, Neil Young and The Fairfield Four (among others), Elvis Costello has established himself as an artist with no limitations to his creative pursuits to the delight of his many fans around the world.
