This is a moderated, low-volume list dedicated to timely announcements concerning Elvis Costello and his work. Many of the posts to costello-a are actually reposts from costello-l. If you are also currently subscribed to costello-l, you are advised to unsubscribe from either that list or this one, as being on both would be a waste of time and system resources.

Subscribing To The Announcement List

Subscribing to the EC announce list is done by sending a note to listserv@listserv.aol.com. The body of your note (NOT the subject line) should be a single line which reads

      subscribe costello-a [your name]

For instance,

      subscribe costello-a John Smith

Unsubscribing

If you need to unsubscribe to the EC announce list, send a note to listserv@listserv.aol.com, the body of which reads

        unsubscribe costello-a

You should receive a note shortly from the list server confirming your removal.

Posting To The Announcement List

To post, compose your note and send it to costello-a@listserv.aol.com. When you send your note, it will be forwarded to the moderator for approval. If your announcement fits the criteria for this list, your message will then be forwarded to all the list members. Please follow the convention of placing the word "ANNOUNCE:" (without the quotes, of course) at the beginning of the subject line of your post. This will help the moderator process your message more quickly.

Example:

Subject: ANNOUNCE: Elvis to do a surprise gig in my basement tonight!

What To Post To The List

Costello-a is for announcements of a timely nature regarding Elvis Costello. "Timely nature" includes but is not necessarily limited to the following topics:

• announcements of new releases, both legitimate and b##tl#gs.
• announcements of tour dates, ticket info, etc.
• announcements of media appearances.
• "I need tickets..."
• "I have tickets to sell..."
• announcements of regional get-togethers of list members.
• formation of tape trees
• announcements of changes/additions to E.C. resources on the internet (the web page, the faq, the discography, etc.)

Volume On The COSTELLO-A List

If you have switched over from the costello-l list, you may be surprised (or relieved) to find that the amount of posts to the costello-a list is quite small in comparison. The moderator anticipates the costello-a list to be very active when Elvis Costello is touring and/or releasing a new album, but for the remainder of the time the list may lie dormant.

Following Up Posts To COSTELLO-A

As mentioned earlier, most of the posts to costello-a will actually be reposts from costello-l. If you ever want to follow up a post to verify its accuracy or acquire more detailed information, please study the message header and determine who originally posted the message and respond directly to that person. Follow-up posts to costello-a will be ignored.
