Elvis Costello, solo & interview
- Kristina Engberg [kengberg@yahoo.com]

I caught the Elvis interview on WXRT in Chicago (he was on around 3pm) -- he chatted for about 20 minutes (no new revelations though, really); he talked about how much fun he's having on this tour because he's so free to perform whatever songs he wants to perform; he doesn't have to worry about an unwieldy band behind him. He also talked about how much he hates rock music (especially contemporary rock), because it's not "sexy", but he likes rock 'n' roll because it is sexy and sinuous, as he aims to be. Initially in the interview he said he didn't know when he'd be recording again (although he's been writing quite a bit), but toward the end of the interview he said that he could imagine recording early next year, getting a good band together (musicians who can play really, really well, and follow his lead) and touring. He also said that during tonight's Chicago show, he would only play 2 of the same songs that he played Wednesday at the Park West; the remainder would be completely different (he then tempered that statement by saying "well, if you play a song in a different PLACE in the show, it's a different song then, isn't it?"). He also promised a brand-new song for tonight!

Elvis also mentioned that he will begin filming that movie with Q-Tip on Wednesday; he said the movie uses music in an ingenious way, and that he's writing and performing a song for the movie.
