Armed Forces

Elvis Costello & the Attractions

Jane Quesnel

Armed Forces (Elvis Costello & the Attractions, JC-35709) is aptly titled, as Costello and his troops invade the music scene with their unique combination of new wave rock and '60s nostalgia.

Don't let the music fool you, for the most innocent sounding upbeat tune has deadly lyrics behind it, as well as Costello's constant and atrocious puns.

The album has its quiet moments, just as well produced as the uptempo cuts. Best cuts include "Oliver's Army," "Chemistry Class," "Party Girl" and "Accidents Will Happen."
