This isn't new wave music. This is dangerous rock 'n' roll. When area disco owners (like those on the coasts) catch on that punk/new wave/rock 'n' roll is more danceable than what they've been pushing, this LP will be on the top of their playlists.
This Englishman has cut some hot American wax. Each song is a potential hit. On side one, a hauntingly stirring organ riff in "The Beat" carries you through to "Pump It Up," where harmony is the password. Keyboards accentuate lyrics while guitars and drum fuse together for ultimate energy. "Little Triggers" is a rock ballad, in the vein of Lloyd Price's "Just Because." You Belong To Me" is a tune straight out of the 60s. Listen to the opening guitar line and see for yourself.
Compare it with the Stones if you must.
Side two starts out innocently enough with "Hand In Hand." It's a rocker, though not enough to make your parents hate you. "Lip Service" will make 'em hate you and maybe make the neighbors circulate an anti-noise petition. If you're susceptible to hypnosis. "Lipstick Vogue" will have you falling prey to every demented girl on your block. I won't mention "Radio, Radio." But some hope it soon will become the new national anthem.
