As for musicians who take themselves too seriously, Elvis Costello continues his downward trend with Punch The Clock, his latest release.
Costello is caught in a time warp of sincerity and mush and Punch The Clock is as inspiring as his Imperial Bedroom, the most overrated album of 1982.
After creating such a classic as "Pump It Up," Costello seems to have lost his helium. While his somnambulistic approach to rock may still appeal to many, it's a far cry from his "It only takes five little fingers to blow you away" rebellious beginnings.
