Elvis Costello is such a prolific writer and recording artist, say the folks at CBS, that they were unable to include all his recorded material on the four American albums he has released up to now.
Hence this collection of outtakes, B-sides and rare cuts from his English albums, most of which will be familiar to Costello fans who don't limit their buying to the domestic releases available in local record stores.
Some of the songs (e.g. "I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea") were included on the live album Costello recorded at Toronto's El Mocambo club in March, 1978. His unusual country song, "Stranger In The House," was included in George Jones' duets album of last year. And his "Girls Talk" has been ruined for all time by Linda Ronstadt.
However, there is plenty more to sustain one's interest, even if the songs in this mixed bag seem to have been thrown together in no particular order without any thought of thematic unity or consistency.
