Elvis Costello and The Attractions, supported by the Young Docteurs, will play at the ANU on Thursday.
Last seen in Canberra some years ago at the Canberra Theatre, Costello and Co should come across far better in the more down-to-earth surroundings of the ANU refectory.
Costello's last date in Canberra, with its brief and surly set, would have won him few friends but the promoters of the current tour assure us that Costello's less than friendly demeanour on the last was attibutable to a contractual wrangle and we need not fear a repetition.
They also guarantee a long set of nothing but rock, certainly no country and western.
The last may have been a concern to those familiar with Costello's last album, Almost Blue, which was recorded last year in Nashville and in which Costello explored, at gruesome length, his country roots.
Tickets for the Canberra concert are priced at $10 and $9 for concession holders and $8 for students.
This represents good value. Seats in other capitals are selling for $14.90.
Canberra tickets can be bought now at Trax, Abels, both Music Markets and the ANU Union shop.
