Elvis Costello gets warm reception

Sarah Aarthun

Elvis Costello played a packed and receptive Blumenthal on Tuesday night, weaving in anti-war sentiments that drew cheers from the crowd.

Costello and pianist Steve Nieve were coming from Nashville and on their way to Raleigh.

The encores at the Blumenthal's Belk Theater blended Costello's songs with the Beatles, Van Morrison and Elvis Presley.

A small group of VIPs mingled with Costello backstage after the show, including a certain Insider columnist.
