Update:
Elvis Costello & The Imposters to Perform at Akron Civic in October; Special Presale Takes Place Today
Jeff Niesel
UPDATE: Akron Civic just announced a special online only ticket presale will take place today from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Use the passcode: CIVIC.
When singer-songwriter Elvis Costello came through town to play House of Blues in 2005, he emphasized the hits, playing rousing versions of songs such as “Watching the Detectives” and “Pump It Up” much to the delight of a crowd clearly ready to revel in some nostalgia for the ’80s. A 2014 solo show at the Palace Theatre provided a striking contrast to that gig. It showed just how versatile the veteran singer-songwriter really is.
Now, Costello has announced that he’ll return to the U.S. for a dozen East Coast and Midwest shows this fall on the Imperial Bedroom & Other Chambers tour. Costello and his backing band the Imposters will “frame” selections from 1982’s Imperial Bedroom with "the songs that led in and out of that velvet-trimmed playhouse.” The tour includes an Oct. 28 stop at the Akron Civic Theatre.
"You must have known by now that we wouldn't play this kind of show by anyone else's rules,” says Costello in a press release. “You'll hear all the songs that fit the bill; hits and headlines, waifs and strays. In the words of the great Eric Morecambe, ‘I am playing all the right notes but not necessarily in the right order.’"
Tickets for the Akron Civic show go on sale at 10 a.m. on Friday.
