LAST NIGHT VH1 and Miller Beer, in association with the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame, presented Elvis Costello in the first concert in their series called THE CRAFT. I was one of about a dozen invited radio contest winners to attend, in what was essentially the workers and friends of Miller and VH1. Inside the Brand Spanking New PEARL AT THE PALMS, a venue with 2500 capacity, were less than 500 sitting on folding chairs on the floor. I was first in the line for contest winners, and was lucky to walk up to a SECOND ROW available single seat!! The contest winners line was let in last but there were plenty of good seats available everywhere.THE PEARL has set the bar high for a quality music venue in Las Vegas. The Joint at the Hard Rock, once seen as "THE" place when it opened several years ago, is a shithole now. The House of Blues, once a favorite place for shows, now pales in comparison.

Elvis Costello came on around 10:45pm, and the format consisted of Elvis being interviewed by someone from the Rock n Roll hall of fame. So it was a lot of questions that led to Elvis maybe playing about 30 seconds of some of his greatest songs in between questions. In 90 minutes, they covered all aspects of his recorded career. He finished the night by playing a full version of "What's So Funny About Peace, Love and Understanding."

ELVIS COSTELLO, and FREE BEER, what a great night out.
