Costello at his very best...

Brian Blake

Elvis Costello took the Olympia Theatre by storm last night with a blistering set that had the audience dancing in the aisles.

From the opening song, Elvis — real name, Declan McManus — raced through his hits at breakneck speed barely stopping to take a breather.

It was a mixture of his old and new work, including "Pump It Up," "Lipstick Vogue," "Oliver’s Army," "Clubland," "Radio, Radio, "Watching the Detectives," "I Want You," "Jack of All Parades," "Loveable" and "I Wear It Proudly."

And he even played his own version of the sixties classic, "Wild Thing," which had him growling and strutting on the stage.

It was Elvis Costello at his best, backed by his group, The Attractions, Pete Thomas (drums), Steve Nieve (keyboards) and Bruce Thomas (bass).

By the end of the concert — two hours and four encores later — the audience was left in no doubt that Elvis is still the King of Rock 'n' Roll.

Elvis plays two more concerts at the Olympia — tonight and tomorrow.

Tonight's show will be a solo performance and tomorrow The Attractions will be back, along with some mystery guests.

There are still a few tickets left so don't miss Elvis in this form.
