Other musical highlights of the summer worth mentioning were: Dave Edmunds' show out at My Father's Place in Roslyn, Long Island; Elvis Costello's shows in Bridgeport, CT and down at Pier 84; and Talking Heads in New Haven, CT. Due to financial limitations, since I live in Connecticut during the summer, I was forced to attend shows up in the provinces.
However, in Elvis' case, the Bridgeport show was without a doubt miles ahead of his show down at the Pier. While Mr. Costello is always a worthwhile performer, Bridgeport was in a smaller place, the
audience was totally crazy (which makes a big difference in the show), and I got to sit on the stage.
As for the other two shows I mentioned, Edmunds was twice his usual awesome self, showing all those Long Island Stray Cats fans what real guitar playing is; and the Heads, while not quite as intense as I've seen them in the past, were still just plain wonderful. Except for a security guard who refused to let us dance in the aisles, it was a great show.
