I normally don't review 12-inch singles, since most are just extended versions from the album, but a special 12-incher by Elvis Costello merits a word or three.
Costello's "Everyday I Write the Book" recently became his first chart hit in this country, and a remixed, extended version of the bouncy number has lately become a big hit in dance clubs.
Remixed by Costello and Joe "Jelly Bean" Esposito, who is also responsible for similar remixes by Billy Joel and the Talking Heads, "Everyday I Write the Book" becomes a funkier, punchier version than originally on the album Punch the Clock.
The four-song 12-incher also offers, as an added bonus, two tracks not included on the album, "Heathen Town" and "Nighttime," as well as an instrumental of "Everyday I Write the Book."
For serious Costello fans, this is a must.
