Seminal British new wavers Elvis Costello and the Attractions will open the Saratoga Performing Arts Center season at 8:15 p.m. Sunday, June 5.
Canada's Crash Test Dummies appear as special guests for the concert, which is presented by Record Town and SPAC.
Singer-songwriter-guitarist Costello is touring in support of his new album, Brutal Youth. Singles from the album include "13 Steps Lead Down," "Clown Strike" and "Still Too Soon to Know." The album was recorded with longtime collaborator Nick Lowe and reunited Costello with The Attractions: Pete Thomas, Steve Nieve and Bruce Thomas.
Brutal Youth was produced by Mitchell Froom, who worked with Costello on Mighty Like a Rose.
Costello's style combines rock and roll with inventive, often acerbic wordplay. Since beginning his career in 1977, Costello has released 18 albums, covering a wide range of music styles. His debut single, "Less than Zero," off the album My Aim Is True, went to the Top 20 on the charts in England. The Attractions' first appearance with Costello came on the album This Year's Model.
Costello since has been a success in the United States with songs such as "Watching the Detectives," "Alison," "Oliver's Army," "Veronica" and "Pump It Up."
Crash Test Dummies' contemporary sound and thoughtful lyrics have proven a success on the U.S. charts. The band is touring in support of its latest album, God Shuffled His Feet. Singles off the album include "Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm," "Afternoons and Coffeespoons" and "When I Go Out with Artists."
Crash Test Dummies are from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. Band members include Brad Roberts, Ellen Reid, Dan Roberts, Mitch Dorge and Benjamin Darvill.
Tickets for the show are $20 in the amphitheater; $15, lawn.
