Andrea, erste Kandidatin, dreht gleich auf den Jackpot "Time" und die vierköpfige Band spielt daraufhin gleich drei Nummern zum Thema Zeit: "Strict Time", "Man Out Of Time" und "Out Of Time" von den Rolling Stones.

"Concert of the Year" by Elvis Costello in the CCH

Costello is not only a singer but also an entertainer in a bright colorful show - the crowd goes without exception happy faces.

Hamburg. Once a large wheel turning, who does not dream? Andrea, Ella, Christian, Yolanda and a few more fans of Elvis Costello get that chance - even if only on the stage of CCH within the vaudeville show by the British singer and guitarist. Guided by the long-legged assistant Katarina on stage, they need the multi-colored Ferris wheel, the "spinning wheel" turn, and have it in your hand, play what song Costello and his Imposters next. On 40 fields are songs from Costello's repertoire, a few jackpot fields also exist. Andrea, the first candidate, turns equal to the jackpot "Time" and the four-piece band plays then three numbers on the subject of time: "Strict Time", "Man Out Of Time" and "Out Of Time" by the Rolling Stones.

Costello is not only singers, but also master of ceremonies in this gaudy show. He scurries between Wheel of Fortune, dance cage and his microphone back and forth, increasing in the hall down to even to cast candidates, interviewed them, and switches between acoustic and electric guitar, depending on which song the magic wheel stops. This soft spot for these self-deprecating form of entertainment he has inherited from his grandfather and his father, who were both musicians in entertainment orchestras.

The 57-year-old shows up as a first class entertainer, but his political activism and his anger about many injustices in the world still does not remain in the dressing room. Of course he has "Shipbuilding" in the program, that veiled melancholy anti-war song he wrote twenty years ago during the Falklands War, and also "National Ransom," his angry settlement with greedy brokers, one of the 31 songs he plays in 165 non-stop minutes.

The audience in only half full the great hall of the CCH is ecstatic, jumping up again and again to applaud Costello standing, and remains as the wheel of fortune on the Joker, it calls especially "I Want You". The last song in a very last encore he plays this passionate love song. As the auditorium flows towards the exits shortly before 23 clock, you see, without exception, happy faces and hear again and again the same comment: "Concert of the Year"
