Best li'l gig in town took place in Dublin's Olympia last weekend, when Tex-Mex band Los Lobos simultaneously raised hell and the theatre roof.
The band first attracted attention with their successful debut album And A Time To Dance in 1983, and since then have worked with The Clash, Ry Cooder and appeared on Paul Simon's Graceland album.
The Olympia gig ground to a premature halt when several fuses blew or went on strike. But, where most electronic bands would slink offstage and drink beer until power was restored, these lads picked up guitar and accordion and belted out an acoustic set to a delighted crowd.
Elvis Costello, who was grooving in a box throughout the gig with his missus Cait, wandered onstage for a couple of songs. Even cool cats who would never normally be seen dead in a Spanish nightclub, were rocking in the aisles to the sound of "La Bamba." Pass the tequila, boys, and come back real soon.
