Punch The Clock

Elvis Costello & The Attractions

Paul Kowtiuk

This is probably Costello's most commercial effort to date, though it'll still be a while before you hear him every other hour on your favorite morning show.

While his stories are of general themes (love, work and philosophy), they're still "foreign" enough to catch the North American ear. And that's the sort of thing that is popular these days … popular enough, in fact, to land him in the top forty for the first time in a long time. The song "I Write The Book," a love song with a commercial beat.

In any case, there's plenty of music for you to ponder on these two sides … thirteen tracks to be exact. But then Costello has usually given his fans their money's worth.
