Armed Forces

Elvis Costello

James Johnson

The third album from Elvis Costello proves that he remains the most convincing angry young man currently operating in the musical void left by the demise of punk.

As the title suggests, he broadens his sceptical, dour view of the world from his previous obsessions of every day alienation into encompassing war and peace.

Otherwise the taut, spartan playing of his backing group the Attractions and Costello's sneer against the world remain in place.
