Although overshadowed by the further release of Dylan's legendary Basement Tapes recordings from 1967 last week, this is still a major moment for Dylanologists: a collection of long-lost lyrics from the same period, put to music and interpreted by other artists. Elvis Costello turns "Down on the Bottom" into a languid ode to self-pity, while Marcus Mumford continues to cement his links to American roots music with the rough, bluesy "Kansas City" and Rhiannon Giddens's take on "Spanish Mary," an interpretation of a traditional folk tune, is haunting. Dylan isn't commenting on the project, but you feel he would approve.
