Elvis is still king!
Things have looked a bit dubious for the last few years, with the solo Costello racking up a number of albums which all failed to catch alight.
But with the return of the trusty Attractions after seven years' furlough, Elvis seems to have recovered some of his bounce and managed to produce some spikey new pop songs always his strongest suit.
Elvis found it no problem replacing the Phantom of the Opera at the Opera House, coming on to a curious tape outlining the moment when James Hewitt and Princess Diana fell in love, and piling into an intense version of "I Want You" — a sinister song of obsessive love.
The latest return-to-form LP Brutal Youth was given a fair number of outings with "London's Brilliant Parade" and "My Science Fiction Twin" outstanding. But unsurprisingly it was the old singles such as "I Don't Want To Go To Chelsea" and "Watching The Detectives" which were the real crowd-pleasers.
And there was also the odd forgotten gem like "Lipstick Vogue" and "You'll Never Be A Man," to jog the memory.
The band were able to combine incredible tightness with a raw edge, easily capturing the sounds of 14 years ago, even if the bellies are a little fuller and the hairlines a little higher.
The show was only 75 minutes long, but they almost matched that in four lengthy encores.
When you have a back-catalogue of the quality of Elvis's there are always going to be cries for just one more song.
