URBANA — On April 25 at 8 p.m., Star Course presents Elvis Costello Solo in Concert with special guest T Bone Burnett at Huff Gym.
Britain's 28-year-old Elvis Costello has an authentic passion for music, rarely seen these days. His lyrics contain a genuine wit and sharp bite, which explains why his first album, My Aim Is True was named one of Rolling Stone's best albums of the year.
Born in London as Declan Patrick MacManus, Costello harbored no fantasies of becoming a rock star. It was after high school when he took up the guitar, that he began writing his own songs and peddling them to music companies.
With My Aim Is True, Costello stepped out as a major figure in British New Music. After appearing on Saturday Night Live, Costello released This Year's Model. It marked the onset of a seven week U.S. tour with producer Nick Lowe opening for him.
1979 saw the release of Armed Forces, which Rolling Stone called "his most ambitious record."
General admission tickets are available at the Illini Union Box Office and run $9.50 for U of I students and $11.50 for the public.
