Dublin dates for Costello

Cathal Dervan

The best news of the autumn so far is that Elvis Costello is to play three shows at Dublin's Olympia Theatre at the start of December. Costello will play three different shows, on three consecutive nights, starting on Monday, 1st December, when he appears with his brilliant backing hand, The Attractions.

Ever since Elvis, alias Declan MacManus, first charted with "Oliver's Army" in the late 1970s his relationship with The Attractions has produced some classic singles like "Alison," "Watching The Detectives" and "I Don't Wanna Go To Chelsea."

His album output has been phenomenal and only last year he joined forces with American singer/songwriter, T Bone Burnett, for a brilliant elpee under the pseudonym, The Coward Brothers.

Elvis and T Bone join forces for the second concert at the Olympia when the stakes will be high (geddit?).

The third concert features the man on his own, with a couple of special guests in support, which could mean anybody from his wife, Cait, of The Pogues whom he produces - to Christy Moore.

A series of gigs to look forward to.
