The Very Best Of Elvis Costello
Tom Locklin
He's been making music now for almost 25 years. Yet he's lost none of the fervour and intensity that first brought his work to our attention. Declan MacManus alias Elvis Costello is probably one of the most important singer / songwriters to emerge from the New Wave of the 1970s. He is arguably one of the most enduring. And certainly one of the most prolific. He's produced 19 albums to date and most of them are now listed as classics. A prodigious talent he is widely respected for his lyrical and melodic precision. The son of Ross MacManus, a big band singer he learned his craft by listening to his father's extensive record collection. Championed by Radio London DJ and author Charlie Gillett he was eventually signed up by Stiff Records and scored his first success in 1977 with "Watching The Detectives." With his backing band The Attractions he went on to enjoy many more hits before embarking on a successful solo career.
Distilled into this 42 track retrospective are some of Costello's most memorable tunes. It includes "Alison," "Watching The Detectives," "Oliver's Army," "I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down" and that evergreen favourite "Good Year For The Roses."
An essential addition to every CD collection.
