First off, my thanks to Debbi Brautman of Miami, who was kind enough to purchase this LP for me on her recent visit to New Yawk.
You see, El's disc is impossible to find anywhere in Miami at the present; so please-oh-please call your friendly neighborhood record store and demand they begin stocking this total rock 'n' roll beauty immediately.
Costello, with his short hair, dumbo clothes, bookworm glasses, and even his retarded name, may look like a real dinky wimpoid.
But hell, don't let his shortcomings in the physical appearance department fool ya'; for this kid is more than capable of out-rocking a lot of "perfectly coiffed rock stars" with his derivative — but somehow still unique — Buddy Holly / Graham Parker / Dave Edmunds / warped mind music.
To top it off, all the killer 4/4 blaster-melodic tunes here are all enhanced by a solid production — something Stiff Records has definitely NOT been noted for in the past.
P.S.: Should you need anymore convincing of this kid's incredible worth, just check out such "dead-center" lyrics as:
"I said 'I'm so happy I could die'
She said 'drop dead,' then left with another guy."
Or:
"Well, everybody loves you so much, girl
I just don't know how you stand the strain."
So far — and without a doubt — the album of the year.
