'83 Readers' Poll

The 1983 indie scene was in fine form, New Order and The Smiths topped the Best Group and Best New Act categories, whilst David Bowie, Elvis Costello and Siouxsie Sioux dominated many of the solo ones.

As our man Paul Du Noyer noted in the poll analysis, the departure of The Jam "left the field wide open for new names to step up and claim the several crowns left ownerless."
