It's their sixth major American tour in as many years, and no major American tour is complete without a New York appearance, so Elvis Costello and the Attractions are here for their third appearance in four days, tonight at Pier 83 (Hudson River, foot of W. 44th St.) (They were at the Pier on Sunday, took Monday off, then showed up to work at Jones Beach last night.)
All this touring is in support of the new album, the ninth, called Punch the Clock, which was released last month on Columbia. One of the tracks features a trumpet solo by Chet Baker, most of whose credentials are in the jazz field, though he now and then crosses over. Aztec Camera, whose new album has also just been released, are sharing the bill with Costello and cohorts.
