Costello in concert with the Attractions and Confederates

Wayne Robins

Elvis Costello's concert series at the Broadway Theater in Manhattan Oct. 21-25 will feature a different show every night. The opening show will be a conventional concert with his longtime band, the Attractions: Steve Nieve (keyboards), Bruce Thomas (bass) and Pete Thomas (drums).

On Oct. 22 Costello will do part of the show solo and part of the show with the Confederates, the group he featured on his King of America album earlier this year. The members of the Confederates include American musicians such as Jim Keltner, Mitchell Froom and former Elvis Presley sidekicks James Burton and Jerry Scheff.

The third show, on Oct. 23, will be a full concert with the Confederates, and the concert on Oct. 24 will star "The Spinning Songbook." Members of the audience will spin a giant wheel to determine which of 40 Costello songs Costello and the Attractions will play.

The closing show, on Oct. 26, is called Blood & Chocolate, which presumably will focus on songs from Costello's new album of that name, which features the Attractions. Tickets are $30 each and are available from the box office at the Broadway Theater (1681 Broadway at 53rd Street) or from select Ticketron outlets.
