My Aim Is True (Columbia JC 35037), the debut of British singer-guitarist Elvis Costello, offers among its pleasant surprises a strong, simple, directly communicative rock conception.

Music with a sound not unlike the '50s, it somehow has a fresh feel. Despite his name, Costello has little in common with Elvis Presley. He's out of the Van Morrison-Bruce Springsteen school.
