Costello starts solo tour
Tony Lioce
Elvis Costello is off on a solo tour that will bring him to the Orpheum in Boston April 18, and at this point it looks as though that's as close to Rhode Island as he's going to get. Tickets — $13.65 and $12.65 — are on sale now through Ticketron. T Bone Burnett will open the show at 7:30 p.m.
The idea of a rocker performing without his band is nothing new. Neil Young has been doing it on and off since the '60s, and in the last few years so have Peter Townshend, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon and Nils Lofgren, among others. It's always especially interesting, though, to hear a singer and songwriter of Costello's stature working alone. Sometimes the music can be given a whole new interpretation.
