Elvis has a problem. Poor, poor Elvis. He had to come up with Imperial Bedroom, one of the song-writing triumphs of the decade and the peak of his career so far. Oh well, too bad. I guess I'll just have to live with Punch the Clock.
Punch the Clock is truly a good, solid effort, but it pales next to his previous efforts. There's no doubt that there are some beautiful songs here, espcially "Shipbuilding" and "Pills and Soap," and some rockin' tunes, such as "Let Them All Talk," but there's no denying it. Some beautiful songs, sonme rockin' tunes. Someday soon, I suspect, when I stop suffering from Imperial Bedroom shock, I'll like this album a lot more.
