So, I don’t know if anyone has noticed or not, but the Police and Elvis Costello are coming to Sleep Train Ampitheatre in July.
Helloooooo? The Police AND Elvis Costello.
First off, it already was a super-big poop that all three cops (Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland) decided to stop bickering and actually re-group to go on tour last year. (Not everybody was thrilled with the results, but whatevs.)
Couple this with the fact that one of the best singer-songwriters to come out of the late ‘70s/early ‘80s new-wave-punk scene is on tour with them?
Now, when I mention this to some folks, they seem not to understand the importance. But when I recently read about this concert here in the dear ol' N&R, I was more than flabbergasted. To say the least.
So let me just say to you all that, for good reason, I am super “to the 400th power” excited about all of this.
And let me remind you all that the Police have much more to offer us other than the wonderful yet overplayed, "Every Breath You Take" and "Roxanne."
And that Costello has so much more to wow us with than "Veronica" and "Every Day I Write The Book."
These artists, especially in their earliest albums, combined the sounds of new wave, punk and reggae like no one else. But of course not only the sounds were awesome. Their lyrics, especially Costello’s, have influnced too many bands to mention.
So, for those of you who were never too much into these guys, and still somehow don’t have any of their records, go purchase these masterpieces right away:
Costello
1. My Aim Is True
2. This Year's Model|This Year’s Model
3. Armed Forces
Police

3. Zenyatta Mondatta
Next, get your tickets to that show. Assuming it’s not already sold out?
