It may have been a lousy year for some of us, but 1982 proved to be one of the best musical periods in the history of the Jersey Shore. The Music Notes Bureau takes this opportunity to praise its brighter moments in rock.
Elvis Costello, Convention Hall, August 1982. During this two-hour show, the Cole Porter of New Wave was uncharacteristically pleasant, compliant, even (gasp) likeable. At times, he also seemed uncharacteristically laconic.
Evidently, different fires burn within the man, but the creative genius is undeniable. From "Allison" to "Shipbuilding," Elvis played it hurt, played it right, and played it better than anybody else.
