This Year's Model

Elvis Costello

Judy Doorbar

Elvis Costello is not exactly pin-up material; in fact it seems he goes out of his way to look as insignificant and as weedy as possible.

But although a pretty face might help, it is not what counts when buying a record. The contents within the sleeve are all that matter, and on that basis Mr. Costello is on to a winner with This Year's Model.

Featuring his latest single "I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea" the album is very good and very interesting, if just a little harsh in places.

Elvis and his band the Attractions shot to fame in a big way during the height of the punk movement, but his music isn't punk at all; it is first-class rock, as this album illustrates.

He is not so much The Other Elvis these days as The Elvis. With this most fascinating record to prove it.
