We're giving you a longing look. We want you to be one of us. We want you to take pictures and write stories for The Stanford Daily. We want you to like Elvis Costello.
Maybe that's too much to ask. But do you have to be so cruel to be callous? Come on and give it a chance. So, maybe we can't convince you to like Elvis Costello. But we can convince you to work for us, can't we?
But don't get the wrong idea. Not everyone here likes Elvis Costello. Some of us will be glad to see him go. But even the most die-hard Bruce Springsteen fans will admit that "Everyday we were born to run" is a pretty stupid way to say "work for The Daily." And sorry, Michael Jackson fans, but "Everyday we're Billie Jean" just doesn't cut it.
You say you need incentive? We've got incentive. If you come and work for us, we promise to keep Elvis Costello out of this paper. It's going to be hard for some of us to hear you criticize our hero. But it's OK. We stand to be insulted. And we pay for the privilege.
But even in a perfect world, where everything is equal, we'd still have blank pages and would be looking for new people. So we're giving you a longing look.
