Kirchen, who first performed with Costello on a live BBC radio broadcast of songs from the "Almost Blue" album in 1981, also backed Costello at his 2006 appearance at the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival in Golden Gate Park, where they played the title track to Kirchen's previous album, "Hammer of the Honky-Tonk Gods."
