Talk:Rhino reissue gaps

From The Elvis Costello Wiki

I have a basic list covering 1977-1997 on the Elvis Costello on Rhino page here. (Scroll down to the second question.) Feel free to lift from it, if you wish. --Nunki 23:30, 7 December 2006 (CST)

Thanks Nunki. I hadn't realised you'd done that. I will include some stuff from your page here when I get some time. Dave Pannell 20 December 2006

Question: Is the new "My Flame Burns Blue (Blood Count)" on the Billy Strayhorn album a different recording to the version on My Flame Burns Blue? The fact that the Strayhorn album lists it as "Blood Count (My Flame Burns Blue)" (reversing the order) suggests that it probably is. -- dpannell 14:17, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

Sorry for the late reply. Yes, it's a different recording. I know iTunes and some online retailers have it as "Blood Count (My Flame Burns Blue)", but it's "My Flame Burns Blue (Blood Count)" on the back of the CD. --Nunki 19:48, 23 February 2007 (CST)
Thanks Nunki. That's excellent. -- dpannell 11:37, 27 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

The original discography has a page called Extracurricular Work, which includes a section called
Other Appearances which lists several more backing vocal credits. -- JohnH 00:32, 2 February 2007 (CST)

Thanks JohnH. I'll add them in. -- dpannell 20:40, 10 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

I have added them all in apart from the following one, which I have a question about. -- dpannell 16:12, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

Anybody know who is the artist for this release? "Ads" (EC on backing vocals & Steve Nieve on keys) [79; 7"; Polydor POST 84] Also on the LP "This Is Your Life" [79; LP; Polydor 2383 552] (Produced by Roger Bechirian & Pete Marsh). -- dpannell 16:25, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)
OK, I found out it was a band called Twist. -- dpannell 16:38, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

I'm inclined to omit the following five from the list of background vocals and intrumental performances. What do people think? Black Coffee is a sample, not a performance; the last three seem a bit speculative; and genuineness of the first one seems doubtful to me. -- dpannell 14:43, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)
(Declan Costello on vocal solos - Art Garfunkel/Amy Grant, THE ANIMALS' CHRISTMAS BY JIMMY WEBB [86; CD; CBS/Columbia CK40212] (Tracks: The Annunciation (2:38)/The Creatures Of The Field (2:31)/Just A Simple Little Tune (2:54)/The Decree (3:25)/Incredible Phat (4:56)/The Friendly Beasts (3:23)/The Song Of The Camels (2:44)/Words From An Old Spanish Carol (3:43)/Carols Of The Birds (1:58)/The Frog (5:15)/Herod (4:26)/Wild Geese (3:32)) - it's not known on which tracks EC performs.)
"Black Coffee" (samples from "Pills & Soap" used thoughout - Nearly God (Tricky), on NEARLY GOD [96; CD])
"Bad Dream" (EC possibly plays violin on this track - Tricky, PRE-MILLENIUM TENSION [96; CD]
"My Evil Is Strong" (EC possibly plays piano & violin on this track - Tricky, PRE-MILLENIUM TENSION [96; CD]
"Piano" (EC possibly plays piano & violin on this track - Tricky, PRE-MILLENIUM TENSION [96; CD]
I agree. As I recall, the rumor that EC is on Tricky's Pre-Millennium Tension is based on those tracks featuring someone named "Pat McManus" on piano and violin, and someone assumed that was a thinly-veiled pseudonym for EC. In fact, Pat McManus is a different person. A quick check on Google reveals that the singer on The Animals' Christmas is named Del Costello, not Declan. --Nunki 00:26, 11 February 2007 (CST)
Thanks for the advice. Done. -- dpannell 16:10, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

Should "Adrian" be moved down to an 'extracurricular'? I thought EC just did backing vox on that. -- Wardo68

Yeah, I think it belongs in "extracurricular." (I never saw it listed as an EC song until it appeared on Plugging The Gaps, Vol 2!) --Nunki 11:07, 10 February 2007 (CST)
Well, it's a marginal one, I agree. My reason for including it in the list of proper gaps is that it includes a fair bit of EC on lead vocal. I prefer it there for that reason, but I wouldn't insist if others preferred to move it. "You Want Her Too" also includes some bits of EC on lead vocals, but they're pretty short, so I put it in the extracurricular section. Just demonstrates that it's a grey area. -- dpannell 14:12, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

--That's cool -- I'd put "You Want Her Too" as more of a duet than a backing vox. (It's been that long since I've heard "Adrian".) Everyone's doing a great job on this wiki, btw -- it's really turning into a great resource! -- Wardo68

Thanks Wardo68, I've had a lot of fun doing the gaps page, with excellent help from Nunki. -- dpannell 16:10, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

Does EC perform on "You Go My Head", the bonus track on the Japanese "For The Stars"? -- dpannell 14:59, 11 February 2007 (WDST Australia)

He produced it but doesn't play on it. It really should be "You Go To My Head," but "You Go My Head" is how it's listed on the CD. --Nunki 00:30, 11 February 2007 (CST)

I deleted My Mood Swings from post-Rhino gaps because it was already included in the Minor Remixes section. dpannell 11:07, 31 August 2007 (WST Australia)
