The Elvis Costello Show:
Don’t let Me Be Misunderstood / Baby’s Got a Brand New Haircut. F-Beat 1986, LC 6792, Through RCA
Tharunka
This single is taken from the album King of America and is something of a surprise for old Costello fans who remember Armed Forces and Oliver’s Army. For one thing this is a cover version, and for another the photo on both the single and the album look nothing like the Elvis I used to know.
It still sounds good though, still that indescribably great voice – especially on the B-side which is classic Elvis Costello and sees him once again teamed up with the Attractions – and Hummingbird I don’t care if it is second rate E.C., it’s still better than most people’s best.
If you’d like to get to know Elvis a little better Tharunka has one copy of the single to give away to the first person who can complete the line “If you’re out of luck and out of work, we could…..”
